RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE
Receptive language is the understanding of language that is heard and read by your child.
How do I know if my child is experiencing difficulties in this area?
- Difficulty following simple directions
- May understand stories that are read to them, but won’t be able to provide a simple explanation
- A limited vocabulary compared to their peers
- Difficulty learning new words
- Says “um” often when talking and uses certain words and phrases over and over again
- Not very talkative and has fewer conversational skills than peers
- Confuses verb tense and leaves out keywords
- Is easily frustrated by the inability to communicate an idea or thought
- Sentences don’t make a lot of sense
